Friday's FREE Tasting - Taras Ochota and his Ochota Barrels New Releases

Ochota Combi.jpg

Tomorrow night I will be opening the Young Gun of Wine 2013 Taras Ochota’s ‘Ochota Barrels’ wines for our FREE Friday night tasting.

The Ochota Barrels tale began on a surf trip in late 2000 along the Mexican west coast in a
Volkswagen campervan. After traveling some of the world’s best wine and
surf regions, Taras and Amber Ochota conceived the idea to make super premium wines back home in South Australia.

The concept was to concentrate on the zenith variety of Mclaren Vale (Grenache) and the
Barossa Valley (Shiraz), find an exceptional old vineyard site in each region and create plush,
small batch, single vineyard wines.

“My idea is to embrace that natural acidity, which is basically from picking early. With that you get lower alcohol than your typical Australian wines. Wines that have energy. Taking a holistic approach to making wines that have an energy, that have a vibrancy. Wines that ‘pop’ when you put them in your mouth!” Taras Ochota

The range has continued to expand with the Ochota Barrels line up now boasting over 10 different wines.

Taras’s wines sell out within weeks on their release each year and I would like to extend an invitation to come down and try his current available releases and be able to share in this cult wine phenomenon that is OCHOTA BARRELS!!

Open tomorrow night will be…..

2015 Ochota Barrels ‘The Slint’ Chardonnay

2017 Ochota Barrels ‘Texture Like Sun’ Field Blend

2017 Ochota Barrels ‘She’s lost control’ Isabella

2016 Ochota Barrels ‘A Forest Pinot Noir’

2017 Ochota Barrels ‘From the North’ Mourvedre

2015 Ochota barrels ‘The Shellac Vineyard’ Syrah

On the CANimal front we have freshly canned Bootleg Brewing Speak Easy IPA. With more hops than a one-legged man, just as bitter as your ex-wife, this U.S. styled IPA has distinct stone fruit and pine flavours from the generous addition of hops, balanced with a slick malt background.

Gourmet Traveler Young Winemaker of the Year - Nic Peterkin of L.A.S VINO

LAS VINO SMALLER.jpg

Hey Bridgees,

I am excited for the AFL GF, but I am even more excited for tomorrow night's FREE wine tasting.

We will have the recently announced Gourmet Traveler Young Wine Maker of the Year - Nic Peterkin in store to take you through his ultra hand crafted wines, under his L.A.S VINO label.

Nic Peterkin’s blood runs red with Margaret River wine. The son of Pierro founder, Dr Mike Peterkin and Shelly Cullen, of you guessed it, Cullen wines fame, the force is strong with this one. His wines are out there, challenging the status quo of one of the country’s most respected wine producing regions. This is the “New Guard” of Margaret River, and the wines are coming out all guns blazing.

Open from 4.00pm until 7.00pm while wines last will be...

L.A.S VINO CBDB ( Chenin Blanc Dynamic Blend ) 2015 - only 3000 bottles made, this wine was inspired by Nik's wine lecturer's love of South African Vouvray style Chenin Blanc. Using excpetion fruit and a little co-fermented Viogner and Chardonnay as a New World twist, this is not your normal Chenin. An elegent monster!

L.A.S VINO ALBINO PINOT 2015 - No your not going crazy, this is Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in one wine, the best of Burgundy. Strawberries and cream in a bottle was the mission.  Barrel work, beautiful oak,  with such a long finish. You must try!

L.A.S. VINO ST MARY'S JERUSALEM CHARDONNAY 2015 - Using some of the best Chardonnay fruit in Margaret River from two vineyards picked on the same day. Wild Ferment, French oak and full Maloactic fermentation, your need to wrap your taste buds around this.

L.A.S VINO PIRATE BLEND 2013 - The Portuguese Pirate Blend contains three Portuguese varieties: Touriga Nacional for structure and depth. Tinta Cao for aroma and finesse. Sousao is the darkest berry I know, and you know what they say, the darker the berry, the sweeter the fruit.

L.A.S VINO NEBBIOLO 2014 - This wine isn't even released yet! I was the first in trade to try it yesterday, and my lucky bridgees will be the first consumers to try it! With whole berry ferment in oak for over 300 days, this wine was incredible. Bright fruits with brooding complexity. Come and share the launch with Nic and I .

Nic and I on the tasting table from 4.00pm at Old Bridge Cellars, 221 Queen Victoria St, North Fremantle.

Gourmet Cheese platter to compliment.

Kosovich Wines tasting with winemaker Arch Kosovich

Tomorrow nights FREE Friday night in-store tasting we will have Arch Kosovich, winemaker of Kosovich Wines, here to take you through his current offerings.  John Kosovich Wines was established in 1922 by Johns father Jack and his brothers, who emigrated from Croatia shortly before the outbreak of World War 1. John took over the winemaking at the tender age of 15 more by necessity than a conscious decision to become a winemaker, and in the early days sweet whites (sherry) sold to the Aussies and some 'rough red' that found its way to the local Croatian and European community remained the staple of the business. John realized that these wines were not right for the Perth climate, and in the early 1960's made the bold move to change the vineyard to begin producing dry white wine. Riesling was one of the first new varieties planted, with Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Verdelho following. The winery operated under the name Westfield Wines up until 2003 when the decision was made to change the name to honour John Kosovich’s 50th vintage.

Fridays Tasting - Jay's Picks

As a family owned, independent liquor store, we believe very strongly in supporting small and boutique wineries.

For this Friday's FREE in-store tasting, I will be taking you through some of my favorite little Aussie gems.

I have chosen 6 wines to open, 2 Great Southern, 2 Clare Valley and 2 multi-regional blends from South Australia.

Open this Friday the 1st from 4.00pm will be...

Clos Clare Watervale Riesling 2015

Clos Clare 'The Hayes Boys' Grenache 2012

Clos Clare is owned and run by Sam and Tom Barry, sons of Peter Barry of Jim Barry wines. These wines have extraordinary pedigree, with the Riesling fruit coming off the iconic Flortia vineyards. “One of Australia’s Great White Wines” (Huon Hooke) & “One of the finest Rieslings I have tasted from Australia” (Robert Parker Jr).

Small Change White 2015

Small Change Red 2015

Small Change Wines started with a conversation between two mates about keeping life from stagnating. The simple philosophy is to make wines we enjoy drinking with friends and family any day of the week. Both wines are multi-regional blends, The White is a Verdelho with a dash of Traminer, and the Red is a Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc.

Lillian Marsanne Rousanne 2011

Lillian Lefroy Chardonnay 2013

Lillian is a small, non-irrigated vineyard on Lefroy Brook near Pemberton, planted with the Rhone varieties of Marsanne, Rousanne and Viognier for Whites and Shiraz and Mataro for Reds. The wines are made by John Brocksopp using only local yeasts, French Barrels and a gravity winery. Lillian doesn't show wines and seldom sends wines for review, but can be found in Sydney, Melbourne, Tokyo and Old Bridge Cellars

All open in-store at Old Bridge Cellars, 221 Queen Victoria St, North Fremantle between 4.00pm and 7.00pm this Friday the 1st of April

OBC presents Jim Barry Wines, Clare Valley

Arvo Bridgees,

This Friday we will be featuring the exceptional wines from my mates at Jim Barry Wines in the Clare Valley.

I had the privilege of meeting the Barry family back in 2012 when I took an amazing trip to South Australia with Negociants AU. We were met by Tom Barry and his Partner and presented with a glass of Watervale Riesling and a country pasty at 9.00am. We all knew this would be the start of a beautiful relationship.

We had the grand tour of the vineyards and world class winery facility, and learnt all about how the Barry Family live and breathe the passion of the wine industry.

This incredible day was finished up with a home cooked meal by Sam Barry in their family home, an experience all of us will not easily forget.

Tomorrow night will be tasting 3 different Rieslings as well as 3 rich and generous Shiraz’s from the Barry family.

Open tomorrow night between 4.00pm and 7.00pm in-store at Old Bridge will be……

Jim Barry Watervale Riesling 2015

Free Wine Tasting - Marlborough and Mendoza

Arvo Bridgees,

For this week's FREE Friday night tasting, I will be featuring some of the wines from my absolute favourite Marlborough producer, Greywacke!! as well as a couple of cheeky Argentinian Malbecs.

I had the privilege of meeting the owners of Greywacke Kevin Judd and his wife Kimberley on a fantastic trip to New Zealand last year. I had an absolutely amazing day, touring the vineyards and tasting fruit straight off the vines, visiting the winery and meeting the Greywacke team, and a highlight of the day, lunch and a tasting of every wine they produce, and can I tell you, if you haven't tried these wines, you need to be here tomorrow night!!

Focusing on Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, Greywacke have been at the forefront of the scientific research into the soil types and optimal clonal plantings suitable for the Marlborough region. The ancient, volcanic soils of Marlborough are perfectly suited to growing exceptional Pinot Noir fruit, while the much younger and nutrient rich alluvial soils make Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc the world famous variety and style it is.

We will also be featuring two little Argentinian Malbecs, perfect for the Australian palate , these wines are fruity and structured, with an almost meaty poise, intrigued, come and try them and find out for yourself.

Open tomorrow night from 4.00pm will be......

Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Greywacke 'Wild Ferment' Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Greywacke Pinot Noir 2012

Alamos Mendoza Malbec 2014

Free In-store Tasting - Kooyong Estate

Hey Bridgees,

The Old Bridge Cellars 'Friday Night Tastings' are back on for 2016!!!

To kick things off for the New Year, we are going to be featuring the super premium winery of Kooyong Estate from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.

This high tech winery has been in operation since 2001, and is a specialist producer of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, playing into the strengths of these Burgundian Varieties in this special grape growing region of Australia.

I first visited Mornington a couple of years back, and i made sure that i booked an appointment during vintage at Kooyong Estate. I was super impressed with the quality of the fruit coming into the winery, and this reflects in the quality of not only their hand-made small batch wines, but in the entry level Massale and Clonale labels.

All fruit for Kooyong wines is Estate grown, and all wines are made on sight at the winery and shipped across the world.

With the price or French Burgundy rising every year, some of the wines that Australia is producing offer the best value for money of any wine producing nation in the world.

Don't believe me, come on down and taste these incredible wines, as always,
between 4.00pm and 7.00pm THIS Friday the 15th of January in-store at Old Bridge Cellars.

Good Afternoon Bridgees,   We have another craft beer tasting lined up for you this afternoon, our very own and highly awarded Feral Brewery from the Swan Valley here in Western Australia. Since we have been here at Old Bridge, we have seen Feral consistently produce exception craft beer, winning awards, such as Australia's number #1 beer for their Hop Hog, in the Hottest 100 3 YEARS running! and pushing the boundaries of what can be considered 'sessionable', such as their exceptional KarmaCitra, a toasty and Hoppy dark beer that is never not in my fridge. Come down and try these brews, and talk craft beer with the Feral and Old Bridge Team, Open will be..... Hop Hog Pale Ale: Exploding with citrusy flavours and hop aromas , rounded with a solid malt back bone. A farmload of American hops makes Hop Hog uniquely Feral and just a little fruity! Karma Citra India Black Ale: An IPA that has been souped-up, American citra hops have been combined with dark malts to produce a smooth brew with chocolate and toffee undertones and a big tropical and citrus aroma. Jay's favourite, you have to try! Sly Fox Summer Ale: This sneaky little beer is light on its feet but still packs a punch of flavour. Lightly filtered to get a vibrant hoppy aroma with a clear bitterness that pairs with a hot, summers day. As always, In-store, at Old Bridge Cellars in North Fremantle, from 4.00pm - 7.00pm Today, Thursday the 17th of December 2015. See you all down here, Jay and the Old Bridge Team

Good Afternoon Bridgees,

We have another craft beer tasting lined up for you this afternoon, our very own and highly awarded Feral Brewery from the Swan Valley here in Western Australia.

Come down and try these brews, and talk craft beer with the Feral and Old Bridge Team,

Open will be.....
