My good friends Tom and Sam Barry from Jim Barry wines have sent over the new vintages of their Clos Clare wines from the Clare Valley in South Australia.
The fruit for the Riesling is hand-picked from 45 year old vines out of the historic ‘Florita’ vineyard. Chilled before gentle pressing, this hand crafted wine shows poise, elegance and character.

Clos Clare Watervale Riesling 2015: The nose displays Granny Smith, lemon, thyme and mandarin. The palate has finesse, generosity and structure, with flavours of finger lime and blood orange. Drink now to 2030
Clos Clare “The Hayes Boys” Grenache 2012: This luscious Grenache comes from Dry-grown vines planted by Kevin Hayes in 1975. It’s a biodynamic vineyard looked after by one devoted vine dresser. Pouring a vivid purple, with aromas of wild strawberry, forest floor and fresh turned earth. The palate shows some lovely fresh acidity combined with flavours of raspberry, cola nut, mocha and rosemary. Drink now until 2020.
I will also have 2 Spanish wines open that we imported with John Jens from Lamonts. As we cut out the middle man and sourced these wines straight from the producers, we are able to offer exceptional value for money with these wines.

Pazo Do Mar Expression Albarino Ribeiro 2014: Located in the Ribeiro region in the north-west corner of Spain, it is rapidly emerging as a power house region for quality wines. The bouquet is fresh and generous, combining lovely citrus, melon, guava and honey suckle aromas. The palate shows similar flavours with generous mouthfeel that leads into a crisp acid finish. Pair with seafood or chicken.
Alceno 50 Barricas Syrah 2012: This wine was made from 85% Syrah ( Shiraz ) and 15% Monastrell ( Mouvedre / Mataro ) and has benefited from maturation in American and French oak for 16 months!
The colour is bright and deep medium red and the nose exudes a very attractive dark, sweet chocolate and berry aromas. The ripe cherry fruit on the palate is backed by firm tannins. Enjoy with strong meat dishes and cheeses.
