LONG TABLE DINNER TO FAREWELL ‘THE DUKE’

May 24, 2022Old Bridge

** SOLD OUT **

Together with North Fremantle restaurant Propeller, Old Bridge Cellars is hosting a long table dinner to say farewell to one of the most humble, kind and gentle winemakers in WA, The Duke of Duke’s Vineyard.

Duke’s Vineyard is located in the Riesling belt of the Porongurups and is most famous for its 2017 Magpie HIll Riesling which broke the record as the first white wine awarded 99 points by James Halliday, securing the title of “James Halliday’s 2019 Wine of the Year”.

After an action-packed 22 years, The Duke - now 81 years old - is passing the baton over to the former winemaker at Cape Mentelle, Ben Cane. Having lived his wine-making life by the motto 'because life’s too short to drink bad wine’, The Duke will be handing over this ethos to the new winemaker who plans to continue this legacy in the Porongurups.

As part of this farewell event, guests will enjoy a four-course dining experience courtesy of Propeller Head Chef Kurt Sampson, designed for sharing and feasting. The food will be paired with renowned wines from the Duke’s collection selected by Old Bridge Cellars including the Sparkling Riesling, the Magpie Hill Riesling, the Magpie Hill Cabernet, the Magpie Hill Shiraz and the Sparking Rosé.

Guests will also hear from The Duke himself about his wine-making career and what it means to him to be handing over his beloved vineyard, as well as special comments from Old Bridge Cellars’ Jay Beeson and Chef Sampson.

The event will be hosted at Propeller North Fremantle on Wednesday 15 June, 6.30pm.
