PONTE VECCHIO PIGEON PAIR

Buon Pomeriggio Bridgees,

Jay Beeson here, you haven't heard directly from me for a while now, but I had to personally share this one. We've been working on this behind the scenes for months and we are very excited to finally announce our...PONTE VECCHIO PIGEON PAIR.

But first, let me set the scene. Back in May this year my fiancé Jane, business partner Aly and I had the opportunity to travel over to Italy to explore one of the most interesting old-world wine producing countries on the planet.

On our trip we had the privilege of visiting some of the most prestigious producers in the country from Massolino and Albino Rocca from Piedmonte in the North, all the way down to the South of Sicily where we met wine making royalty, Ariana Occhipinti.

But it is in Tuscany where we felt most inspired. We were absolutely spoilt, visiting Isole e Olena, Tignanello/Solaia and Fontodi, three of the most famous producers of the ‘Super Tuscan’ styles of Sangiovese blends. It is with this inspiration and location that this story begins....

Florence is a glorious city with old cobblestone lined streets filled with fashion and leather-crafts, as well as world-class gelato stands and Bistecca Fiorentina steaks as big as your head....heaven. We loved exploring the entire city, but it was standing in the sunshine on the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge, when Aly turned to me and said, "'Ponte Vecchio’ means ‘Old Bridge’ in Italian, don’t you recon that’d be a great name for a wine?" Yes Aly, yes I do!

And our Ponte Vecchio label was born...

Back on home soil we set about making this idea come to life with Italian-inspired grape varieties, teaming up with some of our favourite winemakers in Tom from Juniper Estate and Bridget from Blonde Crow (West Cape Howe) to produce the perfect Red and White pigeon pair.

Juniper is a champion for Fiano, a variety that is perfect for summer sipping in Florence and Perth alike, so we couldn't think of anyone better to ask to get involved. He has made us a magical wine with a fruit profile of apples, pears and mandarin peel and, as always with this variety, it is perfectly balanced with a beautiful acid line and a soft touch of skin contact. BUY PONTE VECCHIO FIANO.

For our red, Bridget softly pressed and fermented incredible, cool climate Sangiovese fruit and aged 90% of it in barrel, holding 10% back for freshness. This perfumed and aromatic wine has been enhanced with a lick of Great Southern Cabernet, inspired by the masters of Tuscany. Oozing dark cherries, red plum and cranberry, this wine just jumps out of the glass. BUY PONTE VECCHIO SANGIOVESE.

We are beyond pleased with how these wines turned out and we just know they're going to be your summer go-to (note- the red is amazing chilled)! As a pre-launch special, we are offering a PIEGON PAIR deal - TWIN PACK FOR $50 (RRP $29.95 each).

PLUS all pre-sale orders placed before next week's tastings will go into the draw to WIN a $100 Princi Butchers voucher so you can go pick up your very own Bistecca Fiorentina and enjoy in true Firenze-style.

If you'd prefer to try-before-you-buy, we'll be hosting a tasting at both Old Bridge Cellars store next Friday 27th October (a bonus Friday tasting for Como) where we will also crack open some of our other recent collaborative wines. Stay tuned for more details on that next week.

See you all soon,
Jay and the Old Bridge Cellars team
