The Sardinian Diet

The Sardinian Diet

Dry July is here — a time when many of you are pressing pause on alcohol, whether for a reset, a cause, or simple curiosity. And while a little abstinence never hurt anyone, it’s also a great opportunity to reflect on how we drink, not just whether we do or not.

At Old Bridge Cellars, our mission statement is ‘it’s not alcohol in a bottle, it’s art in a glass’. We believe in thoughtful enjoyment, and few places embody that better than Sardinia, one of the world’s famed Blue Zones - a place where people routinely live to 100 and beyond.

So, what’s their secret? It’s not boot camps or bone broth. It’s something far more joyful: moving daily, laughing often, living with purpose and toasting each meal with a small glass of antioxidant-rich Cannonau red. Curious to taste the Sardinian difference? Join us this week for our 'Sardinian Diet' tastings, Thursday at Como, Friday at North Fremantle, 4pm-7pm.
Sardinia’s signature red grape is Cannonau, a local expression of Grenache, and it’s been studied for its unusually high levels of antioxidants like resveratrol, anthocyanins and flavonoids. These compounds have been linked to improved heart health, reduced inflammation and better blood vessel function. In fact, Cannonau is thought to contain two to three times more of these compounds than other red wines! Enough said.

This week, we’re bringing the Sardinian approach to OBC with a curated tasting of our favourite Mediterranean wines, including a beautifully bright Vermentino, a fresh and mineral-driven Nuragus, a juicy Nero d’Avola from nearby Sicily, a classic Carignano from the south of the island and of course our absolute favourite, the antioxidant-rich Cannonau di Sardegna.

So if you’re looking for a more mindful way to drink, or just want to taste the difference a little Mediterranean wisdom can make, pop in later this week (Thursday Como, Friday North Freo, 4pm-7pm) and taste through some beautiful Sardinian wines. Can't make the tasting? We've put together a pack of the tasting wines at a special price so you don't have to miss out, HERE

If you are taking part in Dry July in the true sense, we of course have a range of non-alcoholic options across the beer, wine, spirits and RTD categories, come check them out!
