With warmer Spring days almost in sight, boutique liquor store Old Bridge Cellars and renowned South-West brewery Eagle Bay Brewing have been busy collaborating to create the perfect sour beer.
Introducing Blue Swimmer Blueberry & Shiraz Sour, a sour beer brewed with 100kg of locally sourced blueberries, 300kg of Shiraz grapes hand-picked by the Eagle Bay Brewers from their property and aged in Zinfandel barrels. It may sound wild to some, but the team at Eagle Bay Brewing have been pushing the boundaries with their collaborations for years.
This collab beer is the second between the pair, releasing Flounder’s Red Ale, a barrel-aged belgium red ale, back in 2019. Those familiar with this release will recognise the artwork on the new Blue Swimmer Sour, with Ian Mutch putting his illustration skills to work again for the label. Keen eyes will spot little motifs from Eagle Bay, North Fremantle and also Como, where Old Bridge Cellars’ second store recently opened, to tell a story about the beer.
Eagle Bay Brewing Head Brewer, Keegan Steinbacher, said this is a seriously fun, fresh and fruity sour ale.
“Spending six months in Zinfandel barrels creates depth and structure, while the blueberries and shiraz from our vineyard drive big, juicy, red cloud flavours. Think sour strap lollies, but in adult liquid form,” said Mr. Steinbacher.
The Blue Swimmer Blueberry & Shiraz Sour will be released with a pre-sale on Monday 22nd August and will officially launch on Friday 9th September with a tasting at both Old Bridge Cellars North Fremantle and Como from 4pm - 7pm. The beer will be sold exclusively at both Old Bridge Cellars stores and Eagle Bay Brewing down south.
The in-store tastings will be followed by a tap-takeover ‘after-party’ at Piggy Food Co. in North Fremantle where punters can enjoy keg-fresh pints of the newly brewed sour, along with all the regular Eagle Bay Brewing favourites.
Those who pre-purchase a 4-pack of the beer will also receive an Eagle Bay signature ‘can glass’ filled with sour lollies because why not?! Pre-orders can be made via the link below for $24.99 and picked up in store from Friday 9th September.
